Natsu Matsuri (Summer Festival) at Shofuso Japanese House & Garden
11am-2pm at Shofuso Japanese Tea House and Garden (Offsite) Exploring the combined traditions of Tanabata and Obon, this cultural event will engage JACL audience members in a local celebration of Japanese culture at the historic Shofuso Japanese House & Garden. Featuring performances by Hoh Daiko taiko group and Seabrook Minyo Dancers, which are both affiliated with JACL Seabrook chapter. Special exhibit Okaeri (Welcome Home): The Nisei Legacy at Shofuso will also be on-view, exploring the shared connections this space has with JACL Philadelphia chapter and postwar resettlement into the region. Participants can pre-order bento boxes from local Japanese caterer Haha’s Kitchen and enjoy a picnic lunch in West Fairmount Park. Other cultural retail vendors will be available on-site.
