“The Japanese American Citizens League congratulates the candidates who made history in Tuesday’s midterm elections and thanks voters across the nation for making their voices heard. We also recognize the volunteers, poll workers, and election officials whose dedication makes our democratic process possible.

“From historic firsts in gubernatorial races to gains in Asian American and Pacific Islander representation in Congress, this election marks meaningful progress toward a government that reflects the full diversity of our nation.

“Representation matters. It broadens the experiences and perspectives that inform public policy and helps communities see themselves in the decisions that shape their lives.

“JACL looks forward to working with newly elected and returning leaders to protect civil rights, strengthen civic participation, and advance the priorities of Japanese American, Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities.”
