Matthew Weisbly, Education & Communications Coordinator, mweisbly@jacl.org

The JACL applauds the announcement today by President Biden of his intent to nominate current Deputy Secretary Julie Su as the next Secretary of Labor. With her service as Deputy Secretary, Ms. Su is perfectly situated to continue the work of the Biden administration in the work of protecting workers’ rights and ensuring we have the workforce to maintain the United States’ position as a global leading economy. In addition to her recent service in the current administration, she brings a wealth of experience leading the California Department of Labor and as a leading civil rights attorney.

Ms. Su would also be the first Secretary level appointment for the Biden administration bringing an additional Asian American voice to the President’s most senior advisors, joining Ambassador Katherine Tai and Vice President Kamala Harris.

We urge the Senate to move swiftly to confirm Deputy Secretary Su to serve as the next Secretary of Labor.
