JACL-Meiji Gakuin University U.S.-Japan Scholarship
The JACL, in partnership with Meiji Gakuin University, is offering a unique opportunity for incoming college juniors to study in Japan on a two-year scholarship.
Fifty international students are selected each year to participate in the Global & Transcutural Studies program in Japan, where they will develop a global perspective on world affairs, an understanding of global trends, and analytical and communication skills for careers in international affairs. Classes are taught in English, and students will earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies.
Also provided are internship opportunities in Japan and other Pacific Rim countries. Meiji Gakuin University (MGU) is located in Tokyo. Established in 1863, the university is one of the oldest in the country. The university has established an academic presence in the United States, as it is a Student Exchange Program partner of the University of California and a Double Degree Program partner of San Francisco State University.
MGU’s relationship with the JACL, which began after Japan’s devastating earthquake and tsunami in 2011, gave birth to this opportunity for JACL student members. The JACL and Meiji Gakuin University encourage those interested in the field of global and transcultural studies to apply. The application deadline of March 10 is fast approaching, and additional information and applications can be found on the JACL-Meiji Gakuin U.S.-Japan Scholarship webpage.
