JACL Back to School Weekly Feature! Week 6!
This is our last Back-to-School Weekly Feature! We hope you learned more about our revitalizing Education Program. Please consider supporting our Education Program through the Centennial Education Fund that celebrates 100 years of JACL’s education work.
Week 6 of 6: BIG Announcement, BIG Thank You
JACL is happy to announce that we were one of the recipients of the 2021 National Endowment for the Humanities Landmarks of American History and Culture grants. We are happy to bring back Civil Liberties in Times of Crisis: The Japanese American Incarceration for teachers and educators to be a part of in Summer 2022. This one-week program will be available for two different sessions in late June and early July 2022 and will bring educators to Los Angeles' historic Little Tokyo community to take part in the program including guest speakers, trips to Santa Anita Racetrack, and Manzanar National Historic Site. We are so happy to bring this program back after 5 years and look forward to opening up applications to interested attendees in January 2022.

Congratulations to JANM for their NEH Grant
JACL also congratulates and is delighted to cross-promote JANM's NEH Teacher Training workshops entitled, "Little Tokyo: How History Shapes Community Across Generations". These workshops will be held at JANM from July 17 to 22, and July 24 to 29. They will cover the earliest immigration in the 1880s, the establishment of the community, the forced removal and mass incarceration during World War II, the Bronzeville era when African Americans settled in the area during the war, postwar resettlement, and the ongoing fight to preserve the neighborhood against the forces of redevelopment and gentrification.
Reminder: 2021 JACSC Education Conference
Founded on the idea that we are stronger together than on our own, JACSC aims to bring together practitioners in preservation, education, and advocacy related to the Japanese American experience. This free opportunity includes educational sessions and inspiring conversations with our national community of thought leaders and experts. Join us for one session, or all weekend!
This is the second virtual education conference and will be held October 29th-30th, 2021! Save the dates for a special event the evening of Friday, October 29th, and educational sessions throughout the day on Saturday, October 30th. Click below to register!
