Congressional Briefing on the Japanese American Incarceration during World War II and Its Relevancy Today

The Japanese American Citizens League (JACL), Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation (HMWF), and the Japanese American Confinement Sites Consortium (JACSC) are collaborating with the American Psychological Association (APA) to host a Congressional briefing Thursday, February 28, 2019 9:00-10:00AM at the Capitol Visitor Center in room HVC-200 (House side, on the south side of the center).
Continental breakfast will be served at 8:45AM.
The briefing will feature:
● Rep. Mark Takano, Second Vice-Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus
● Former Secretary of Commerce & Transportation & former Heart Mountain incarceree, Norman Mineta.
● Dr. Arthur Evans, CEO of APA who spoke at the Heart Mountain site, will discuss the lasting psychological effects of the incarceration, separating children from their families, and other types of trauma.
● Sam Mihara, imprisoned at Heart Mountain as a child, has spent the last eight years travelling the country to speak at schools and civic groups will talk about his incarceration experience during World War II.
Space is limited. Attendance is highly encouraged, but please keep in mind seating is limited. Security is enforced at the Visitors Center and outside water or food cannot be brought in with you (even if in a purse or briefcase).
