REGISTRATION FOR THE 2018 JACL NATIONAL CONVENTION IS NOW CLOSED
Please be aware of the following as you prepare to attend the 2018 Convention:
The Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown is undergoing construction this summer. While there will be no noise during our stay in Philadelphia, starting July 16 and ending on July 22, construction-related noise will resume beginning July 23. Please keep this in mind if you plan on booking your stay beyond the dates of the Convention.
3 days before/after
The Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown has agreed to honor the room rate of $149 per night (pre-tax) to all guests that book through the JACL room block up to three nights before and after Convention dates (starting July 13 and ending July 25), depending on room availability at the hotel. If you would like to extend your stay beyond Convention dates, it is best to call the hotel directly to book your reservation to ensure you will receive the $149 room rate.
Barnes Foundation event
On Friday, July 20, JACL is co-sponsoring the Artist Bash at the Barnes Foundation, an art institute that works to promote education and appreciation of the fine arts and horticulture. The fourth Artist Bash dives deep into collective historical memory to bring contemporary expressions of traditional art forms reflecting the melting pot that is America. The event will feature many expressions, including (but not limited to) flamenco, capoeira, and music by National Poetry Slam champion G Yamazawa. Born in Durham, North Carolina to Japanese immigrant parents, G Yamazawa is a National Poetry Slam Champion, Cultural Diplomat for the Department of State, and Kundiman Fellow. With notable performances at the Sundance Film Festival and the Pentagon, G continues to challenge the American perspective of race & culture, poetry & rap, and the phenomena of the human condition.
Admission to the event includes access to the Barnes’ collections and special exhibitions. Heavy hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be available for purchase.
